Product Care

-

Hamimi products are designed and handmade with love, skill and care to be enjoyed for years to come.

The following information about our jewellery, bags and lamps will help you maintain their beauty and longevity.

Brass is a yellow metal alloy of copper and zinc. It has been used in jewellery making in Morocco and around the world for many, many years. Brass is a traditional and sustainable choice for our jewellery, as much of the brass used today is from recycled sources. As an affordable alternative to gold, brass allows us to make original, luxurious statement pieces, at accessible prices.

Brass is a beautiful material that may need a little love from time to time, as it will tarnish and patina with age.  Some people love the patina that comes with age, while others prefer to maintain a bright and shiny look. Our brass jewellery is made from solid uncoated brass. This means that it is easy to clean and the colour will not wear off.

There are quite a few different ways to clean our brass jewellery. The simplest way to clean and polish our brass jewellery is with a jewellery polishing cloth, such as Sunshine Polishing Cloths, which are inexpensive and are readily available online around the world. You'll find these cloths useful for your other jewellery pieces too. All of our brass pieces can also be polished with a brass cleaner (like Brasso) and a soft cloth or paper towel.

To clean using ingredients you may already have at home, follow the steps below:

1. In a small bowl, mix 1 part water and 1 part lemon juice.

2. Soak desired brass piece in mixed solution for 5 min.

3. Rinse thoroughly with water.

4. Dry immediately with a soft cloth and leave to air dry completely.

5. Buff gently with a soft clean cloth.

To delay tarnishing, keep your jewellery away from moisture, steam, excessive heat and chemicals (soaps, perfumes, deodorants and cosmetic lotions). Always apply lotions and sprays prior to putting your jewellery on. Store your jewellery in a safe, dry place.

Some of our brass jewellery incorporates leather or has leather neck straps. Simply wipe the leather clean with a soft damp cloth as needed.

Each Hamimi bag is handmade by skilled artisans in Marrakech. We use a variety of high quality leathers that will wear in beautifully over time. Our leather and textiles (for lining, etc) are carefully chosen for their purpose, appearance, texture and character.

Please note that there may be slight colour and grain variations from bag to bag. Please also note that the transfer of leather dye onto light coloured fabrics is possible. Please also be aware that unwashed or dark denim may rub off onto the lighter coloured leather. Please take this into consideration with the first few wears.

A little tender loving care goes a long way in preserving the condition of your Hamimi bag.

Clean  - Wipe with a soft damp cloth {make sure it is just damp, not wet}.Use a specialised leather bag cleaner for stubborn marks or dirt. Be aware that this may discolour the leather, so be sure to test first on smallpart where possible.Let water drops dry naturally, using heat to dry can damage the leather.Consider consulting a professional leather goods repair if necessary care.

Protect - It is worth protecting your leather with one of the many leather protection products on the market. Just remember to test it on a small part of the bag first as it may discolour the leather.

Store it in a cool, dry place with good air ventilation. When not in use, store your handbag in the dust bag provided.

Since leather is porous, it loses moisture through evaporation. Use a leather conditioner once in a while to keep your bag soft, protected and looking its best. Wipe excess product and allow the bag to air dry completely before storing it.

Never leave your leather bag lying in the sun or exposed to the elements.

Our crochet lamps are lovingly handcrafted by artisan woman in a small village on the outskirts of Marrakech.  The size and shape of each piece may vary slightly, which we consider a normal part of the handmade process.  A little tender loving care goes a long way in preserving their condition and appearance.

Our crochet lights are handcrafted from traditional Moroccan hand-spun viscose 'kitan' yarn on handmade solid brass rings. They are intended for interior use only. They should not be used in bathrooms, where the moisture from steam can soften the thread fibres and cause them to become mis-shaped.

Dust / clean regularly with a feather duster, lint roller and/or vacuum with a furniture nozzle attachment. They can also be wiped clean with a lightly dampened cloth after any dust is removed via any of the fore-mentioned methods.
